A friend and I were grabbing drinks one day and decided we needed something to soak up the alcohol… I mean, have a nice dinner. I was complaining about how DC does not have decent Italian food when my friend grabbed my arm and said with a sense of urgency that we HAD to go to the Red Hen. Therefore, I obliged.
The Red Hen is on the outskirts of DC towards the Maryland side of the city. When I walked in, it was an intimate restaurant that is well-lit by the activity going on in the open kitchen. Looking at the menu it was very short and simple, much like menus that I have seen in Italy. We started off with a chicken liver mousse that I still dream about to this day.
