Growing up in Roseland, a South Chicago Italian neighborhood, Tom Gelsosomo enjoyed the meals prepared by his Italian family so much that after spending time working in the food industry he decided to open up his own restaurant serving many of the dishes he remembered so well from his youth.
Choosing an Italian restaurant in the growing community of Portage because of its Italian-style architecture, he started his first restaurant in 1979. Tom later opened Gelsosomo's Pizza. Popular from the very beginning because of its extensive offerings of freshly made ingredients and slow-cooked, house-made sauces, Gelsosomo's Pizza developed a loyal following which continues to this day.
