Cella Bistro's mix of traditional Italian, fusion fare keeps regulars returning

Tucked in a nondescript building on an unassuming Schenectady street, Cella Bistro is hardly the most illustrious of settings. But after nine years in business, the Cella family has built up a loyal following, as fond of the owners as they are of chef-owner Michael Cella's eclectic take on Italian food.

In return, Cella keeps dishing upscale culinary flair at remarkably reasonable neighborhood prices. Picking up where Perrino's, a landmark Italian restaurant in the same spot since the 1970s, left off, the smooth interior of Cella Bistro is as different from its outside as the lining of an oyster and its shell.
