Ill-fated Soho Italian steakhouse Costata has sent e-mails to customers saying its final service will be Thursday — and the restaurant by owner Ahmass Fakahany and chef Michael White is looking for "alternate locations to reopen in the near future." But, one foodie sniffed, "It's not a 'relocation' until they sign a lease. It's just closing." The spot is shuttering after less than three years, but is still delivering steaks via an online "portal" called Caviar.
White made a splash at the same space back in 2002, when it was Fiamma. Even though New York Times critic Pete Wells liked Costata when it opened — writing of White, "The old moves still work," and, "The guy's a magician with seafood" — he was blasted by Fakahany this month.
