With a nearly 20-year presence on Staten Island, the owners of Top Tomato -- known for deli-fresh Italian specialty dishes -- are expanding to open a fifth store. This one is in Port Richmond. The new store, at 1579 Forest Ave., is in a 7,500-square-foot building formerly occupied by a Walgreens.
It’s expected to open by April, said Anthony Sciandra. His family has owned the Island’s Top Tomato stores since the first one opened on Amboy Road in Great Kills more than 19 years ago. “The people of this area don’t have a Top Tomato, and this location made us want to open another one,” he said. “There are not a lot of Italian specialty stores in this area. When the location became available, we saw it as a perfect fit for a Top Tomato.”
