War, violence against women, labor. These are some of the main topics touched upon by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella in his traditional year-end address, the ninth since he was first elected head of state. In his speech, Mattarella reviewed some of the biggest challenges facing the world in 2023: "We know that we are in a season that presents many reasons for alarm and, at the same time, new opportunities.
We feel," the head of state added, "anguish at the violence that, often, we witness: between states, in society, in the streets, in scenes of daily life. Here then, in view of the start of the new year, Mattarella invites everyone to do their part: "We are living an epochal passage. We can all give something to our Italy. Something important. With our values, with the solidarity of which we are capable. Because democracy is made up of the exercise of freedom."
