An exhibit at the MAXXI museum in Rome depicts Italy as a country eager to turn the page after the tragedy of World War II, rolling up its sleeve and getting down to work, building on its strong tradition of highly skilled craftsmanship and dressmaking: a country that would be soon reborn, to become a fashion powerhouse worldwide.
The exhibition showcases Italy's economic boom between the 1950s and 1960s, with its film productions packed with Hollywood stars and the Dolce Vita in Via Veneto, with Swedish actress Anita Ekberg taking a dive fully dressed in the Trevi fountain in Rome before a besotted Marcello Mastroianni and captured by film director Federico Fellini's movie camera.
