If you came to Italy in the past twenty years, you’ve definitely seen it, even if you’ve never been to Turin, because the Mole Antonelliana is on the back of our 2-cent coins. If, by any chance, you come from a Piedmontese heritage, you’re probably way more familiar with it, because its unmistakable silhouette is as traditional of Turin as gianduiotti chocolates and F.C. Juventus.
I Torinesi, or i Piemontesi who spent time in their regional capital regularly, for work or for study, know an anecdote or two about it, I can assure you. For instance, every single student of the Università degli Studi knows that, if you want to graduate, you are better not go up to the top, because legend says you’ll never get your laurea if you do it.
