Italian Carnival is €200 mn very serious affair

There is little to joke about when it comes to Carnival's value as a tourist attraction. The celebrations attract international attention and move a turnover of over €200 million. And this year is no different. Italy will host hundreds of more or less significant events based on local traditions, and is ready to reap the benefits in terms of hotel stays and purchases of goods and services by the visitors.

This year the festival, which will reach its climax on Mardi Gras on Tuesday, February 9, is enjoying a renewed interest. Based on Embratur figures, 14,000 Italians are planning to travel to Rio de Janeiro, where a million people are expected, 350,000 of whom are foreigners.
