The way we sit around the table to dine together but also what we eat can tell so much not only about our gastronomic habits but also about our culture and identity. It's quite an experience to see how the gastronomic costumes of a nation have changed during the years in correspondence with its most important historical, social and political events.
The exhibition Italiani a Tavola 1860 – 1960. Storia fotografica dell'alimentazione, della cucina e della tavola in Italia shows off a series of original and timeless photos telling us more about the Italian gastronomic habits during the years from 1860 to 1960, a century that saw the birth of modern Italy, a dictatorship and two World Wars. Each photo reveals unpublished details of Italians around the table, their gestures and attitudes, focusing the attention on the dining table seen as a social moment of sharing and cultural expression.
