In Calabria, new hospitality formulas are breathing life into forgotten areas: the region's first "virtual hotel" has opened in the historic center of Belmonte Calabro, on the Tyrrhenian coast. The complex, made of 14 houses and 44 beds, has transformed the abandoned village into an alternative tourist resort, open all year.
"Between November and December we will welcome a group of Scandinavian tourists, currently we are hosting a lot of Germans, but in the summer months we were full of Argentine guests," said Pino Suriano, the entrepreneur who restored much of the old town with €1 million.
