Policlinico Gemelli is once again the "best hospital in Italy" according to the ranking compiled annually by the American magazine Newsweek. This is the fourth year in a row that Policlinico universitario has ranked at the top of excellence in Italy, also consolidating its absolute top position in the world rankings, placing 35th overall (last year it was 38th) in the world's top 250. It is the only Italian hospital among the top 50 in the world.
To compile the ranking of the top 250 hospitals on the planet, as many as 2,400 hospitals from 30 countries were included in the analysis this year. This is cyclopean work and exponential growth for Newsweek's prestigious international ranking, considering that the first ranking, dated 2019, analyzed the performance of just 1,000 hospitals in 11 countries.
Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2024 ranking was compiled by analyzing the performance of the 2,400 best hospitals in 30 nations (U.S., Germany, Japan, France, Italy, Great Britain, South Korea, Brazil, India, Spain, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Colombia, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Malaysia, Thailand, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Israel, Singapore).
Each hospital is evaluated from a substantial database that includes expert opinion (online survey conducted between September and November 2023 among more than 85 thousand doctors, hospital directors, healthcare professionals in 30 nations), surveys conducted among patients (patient satisfaction survey related to hospitalization), hospital quality metrics (e.g. quality of care, hygiene measures, patient safety, waiting times), survey on the implementation of PROMs (Patient-Reported Outcome Measures, defined as standardized and validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perceived functional well-being and quality of life).
