A Florence court has ruled against residents who tried to prevent people from using apartments for short-term holiday rentals. The city of Florence had sought to rein in the proliferation of Airbnbs, which has been accused of contributing towards an increase in local rent prices in popular holiday destinations across Europe.
The popular Italian city has the highest density of Airbnb lets per inhabitant in the country, but a ban on registering new short-term rentals by the city council last year was overturned by a tribunal. Dario Nardella, who was the mayor of Florence when the ban was introduced, said that the number of listings in the city had risen by 250 percent since 2016.
