As far as beautiful city breaks go, Florence is up there as one of the most popular among global travellers. Not only is it the capital of the Tuscany region in central Italy but also one of the most walkable spots on the world map, according to new data. A recent list revealed that the quintessentially romantic destination earned the top spot due to its five main attractions all being located within half a mile of each other.
Financial website Insider Monkey earlier this year released its ranking of the globe's most pedestrian-friendly cities based on data from Tourlane and WalkScore, plus a consideration of the air quality and crime indexes. Described as “a city that offers Renaissance history and timeless architecture with each step”, the ranking suggested that Florence's walkability seeps through its historic centre which is home to its most famous landmarks.
