The website GuruWalk, the international community of city walking tour enthusiasts offering free walking tours of cities with specialized guides, has decreed that the Capital is the most beautiful half to visit on foot. The ranking evaluated bookings made in 800 cities in 120 countries over the past year, from April 2023 to April 2024.
The top nation in the top 100 is Spain with 28 cities, 7 times for France, only one the U.S., Italy 6. Rome first beats all, then Florence in fifth place, Venice 14th, Milan 25th, Naples 37 and Bologna 78. Following Rome on the podium were Budapest and Barcelona. Rome won because of "the sheer number of monuments that makes tourists not even know where to start," writes GuruWalk.
"There are clusters of world-class attractions discoverable on foot in Rome, from the Colosseum to the Pantheon. So it's not surprising that Rome hosts more guided tours than anywhere else." Did anyone have any doubts?
