Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport, better known as Fiumicino, has been rated Europe's best airport with over 25 million passengers, for the second year in a row. The recognition, by Airports Council International (ACI), was part of a series of awards given to six European airports, depending on their passenger capacity.According to the ACI press release, the judges were impressed by Fiumicino's "operational excellence, effective passenger-centric approach, strong focus on innovation, safety management strategy, close cooperation with the airlines, continuous performance monitoring, clear environmental targets and active local engagement."
The award is the latest in a string of prestigious accolades for Fiumicino in recent years, which registered a record 43 million passengers in 2018. Last year Fiumicino was classified as the world's most improved airport as well as being voted ninth best airport in the world.
