The American Institute for Roman Culture's Executive Director, Darius Arya, appeared on Italian television news channel RAI News to discuss the idea of recreating the arena floor of the Colosseum to allow visitors to access an area rendered off-limits by excavations during the past 100 years.
The idea, proposed by Italian archaeologist Daniele Manacorda and supported by Minister of Culture and Tourism Dario Franceschini, has sparked a healthy debate among specialists and policymakers on the priorities of Italy's ongoing efforts to promote and develop its cultural heritage.
