Jude Law is reportedly in advanced talks to play a fictional Italian-American pope in Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino’s first television venture, "The Young Pope". Sources close to the production have confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter that Law is currently in negotiations, but has not confirmed the role.
Law would play a hardline conservative pontiff during a time when the Vatican is trying to push out liberals. The show, produced by Wildside’s Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani in collaboration with Rupert Murdoch’s Sky Italia, is in no way based on the current occupant of the Vatican.
