Lady Gaga Climbs Ev'ry High Note in 'Sound of Music' Tribute

For the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music, Lady Gaga belted out a gorgeous medley of songs from the film at the 2015 Oscars. Clad in white and accompanied by a string section, Gaga sang four tracks from the film and musical's soundtrack — "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things," "Edelweiss" and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain."

Scarlett Johansson introduced the tribute, which followed John Legend and Common's moving performance of "Glory" and win for Best Song. Johansson's transition into discussing the legacy of The Sound of Music was an awkward one, including a comparison of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Selma-to-Montgomery voting-rights march — the inspiration for "Glory" and the film Selma — to the impact of the musical film. (The march also celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year.) The tribute was immediately followed by Julie Andrews presenting the award for Best Original Score to Alexandre Desplat for The Grand Budapest Hotel.
