The National Organization of Italian American Women has lost a dear friend and a great lady, the Baronessa Zerilli-Marimò, who passed away on October 18, 2015. Mariuccia, as I called her, was a past NOIAW honoree and a Distinguished Member of our Board. She was the patron whose kindness, generosity and vision developed the Casa Italiana at NYU, which supports our Italian culture, history and language in New York City.
The Baronessa and I served together on the NIAF Board. We spent many hours at her home or mine, talking about Italy, the war years, our families and our many mutual friends. Today I received an email from one of those mutual friends, Franca Arena in Australia, who also expressed her sadness.
