Luca Della Casa, executive chef of Nosh and Silo restaurants, fell just short Sunday in his quest to take the top prize of "Food Network Star." Instead, viewers voted for "gourmet cowboy" Lenny McNab of Colorado and his show about cowboy cuisine, topping Della Casa's pitch for a show about Italian cuisine from the native of Torino, Italy.
Although viewers gravitated to his combination of enthusiasm, welcoming personality, his accent, dimples and physique — as well as his considerable culinary skill honed over a lifetime of cooking with family and in some high-level kitchens — it wasn't enough. "Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose," Della Casa said by phone from New York after the episode aired. "I was happy for Lenny. I applaud him and all the other contestants."
