US president Donald Trump has announced that approximately $100 million in medical aid and equipment is being sent to Italy amid the Coronavirus crisis, reports France24. Trump announced the measures at a press conference on 30 March after speaking to Italian premier Giuseppe Conte by telephone, according to Italy's Sky TG24.
The call was described as a "long and friendly conversation" by Conte who tweeted his gratitude "for the solidarity and support of American friends. We continue to work together to overcome this difficult challenge." Trump was not specific about the type of medical aid or the timing, saying: "We're going to be sending approximately $100 million worth of, of things, of surgical and medical and hospital things to Italy."
