Italy has taken a major step forward in Europe’s energy transition with the launch of a new industrial facility dedicated to the complete recycling of lithium-ion batteries. Located in Soliera, in the province of Modena, the plant is designed to process batteries from electric vehicles and other applications, transforming end-of-life components into reusable raw materials at an unprecedented level of efficiency.
The facility focuses on lithium-ion batteries using NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) and LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) chemistries, which together account for nearly 98 percent of the batteries currently used in electric mobility.
