Italy is entering a new phase in the development of solar energy, one that combines technological innovation, industrial strategy, and a growing sensitivity to landscape and cultural heritage. By the end of 2025, installed photovoltaic capacity in the country exceeded 30 gigawatts, more than double the level recorded a decade earlier.
Solar power now accounts for roughly 12% of national electricity generation, with peaks above 20% during summer months. These numbers confirm that photovoltaics are no longer a niche solution but a structural component of Italy’s energy system.
