You get an idea of what life is like right now for Mike Piazza when the phone call is interrupted by an occasional shout out of, “Ciao!” The Hall of Fame baseball player, raised in Pennsylvania and celebrated from Los Angeles to New York, now lives the sort of life that is the thing of novels or comedic films.
And he will impart his words of wisdom to high school athletes across our area as the guest of honor at the NorthJersey.com Sports Awards, June 14 at Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood. The event begins at 6 p.m. While Piazza gets back to the New York area at times, attending the Mets' Opening Day at Citi Field this season, he has found a different way of life.
