There's no business like show business. That's what Bart Collida thought. He was a senior at St. Louis University High at the time. It was 1949 and he became fascinated with television, a medium still in a black-and-white infancy. Collida caught a bit of the "Ed Wynn Show" on the shadow box one day and reached an important career decision.
He skipped baseball practice and signed up for the "Senior Follies." "The baseball coach came looking for me," Collida recalled. "He said, 'Hey Collida, where have you been? Why weren't you at practice?'" In all sincerity, Collida explained, "Coach, I'm in show business now."
