Durham's Natalie Marrone makes her choreographic film debut in "Alto." She will be at its New York premiere at the 15th Annual VisionFest Film Festival. Marrone, who teaches dance at Duke University, was responsible for the dance scenes in the film's Italian Festival. The film has already won a Runner-up Audience Award at Miami's Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and has been accepted in the Hoboken International Film Festival later this month. It has also been submitted to the 20th annual N.C. Gay & Lesbian Film Festival Aug. 14-22 at The Carolina Theatre.
"I was thrilled to be a part of it," Marrone said. "We've seen a thousand Mafia films but we've never seen one like this." In the romantic comedy, two women (portrayed by Diana DeGarmo and Natalie Knepp) fall in love. Both are daughters of Mafia dons. "Coming out to family is hard, but coming out to FAMILY is funny!" says the film's website.
