Directed by Dino Risi, Il Sorpasso follows Roberto, a shy law student and Bruno (Vittorio Gassman), a forty-year-old exuberant, capricious man during the summer of 1962.
The time they spend together in Rome and Tuscany is a hilarious, but sometimes an emotionally merciless accelerated maturation process. While Bruno's easy going "l'usage du monde" and societal success is initially attractive, Roberto slowly begins to realize Bruno's hollowness, superficiality and unhappiness.
