Named after the classic Italian villas that once dotted the landscape in ancient Rome -- a paradise of sorts or even a "higher place" -- Villa Paradiso conveys an air of nostalgic charm and contemporary creativity. It's clear Leonardo and Silvio LoVerde had visions of the "old country" in mind when they christened their unpretentious dining spot. And the eatery definitely lives up to its name.
Nestled way back in the former Pathmark Plaza of Great Kills, right off Greaves Avenue and Amboy Road, the casual, 150-seat Italian supper club opened its doors four years ago, replacing Joe's of Avenue U. Loyal patrons call it one of Staten Island's best kept secrets, with consistently fresh fare, well-appointed dining areas for parties, a large fresh lobster tank and live music a la Walter Curella on Saturdays and Sundays. (BTW: Sunday Sauce is a hearty crowd-pleaser here.)
