What's up with WTI: Editorial # 112

Ciao from Rome to all the friends of We the Italians!

The new book by We the Italians, the Yearbook of 2018, has been released: you can find it here. In 2018 we interviewed 26 leaders, 26 friends who gave us 26 different views about 24 different topics of the relation between Italy and the US. History, education, Little Italy, sport, language, research, emigration, culture, gardening, food, art, advertising, heritage, entertainment, family, science, Christopher Columbus: in this yearbook you will find all these topics, and much more.

Among our guests we've had 11 men and 15 women: we had 23 single interviews and a triple one. 7 of our guests live in Italy, 19 in the US. All of them share the love for both Italy and the US. So you will find 24 interviews, each of them in two versions, in Italian and in English.

We want to thank all the interviewees that made this possible. Also, we want to thank our readers and followers on the social media we are on. And last but not least, we want to thank all the people that work hard to build and grow this network.

On Tuesday January 22nd we celebrated the 75th anniversary of the landing of Anzio, when American soldiers (including many Italian Americans) liberated Italy from fascism. The Sicily-Rome American Cemetery is home to 11,000 American soldiers to whom every Italian owe respect and gratitude. It was also the time for the exhibition of some works of street art, this is the one that struck me most. Two flags, One heart. Thank you, always and forever.

We are working on partnering up with our friends all over the United States. This month we announce two partnerships on two festivals, one regarding the West area and the other one regarding the South area. On February 22nd, 23rd, 24th 2019 in Scottsdale, AZ, we’ll be media partner of the 6th Annual Italian Festival of Arizona. On March 12 to 17 in Albuquerque, NM we’ll be media partner of the 12th Annual New Mexico Italian Film & Culture Festival. If you want to partner up with us for an Italian event in the US, please send us an email at [email protected]

From this month we are starting a new tradition. Every month on this editorial we’ll be remembering you an Italian proverb, starting every month with a different letter of the Italian alphabet. Proverbs are a very important part of the Italian traditions! The proverb of the month of February 2019 is: A mali estremi, estremi rimedi (Desperate times call for desperate measures).

That’s all for now. So stay tuned, fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride. The future’s so bright, we gotta wear shades!
