Ciao Amici! This year, the Italian American Program is celebrating 30 years as a part of the History Center and, in honor of this milestone, we are publishing a book entitled Highlights from the Italian American Collection: Western Pennsylvania Stories. While we might not be able to host a public event as we originally intended, we are offering a virtual book release in late spring so you can hear about this important publication as soon as it is available. You can read more about the new publication below.
If you are like me, you are probably thinking about the people in your life who are impacted by this novel virus. I hope you are able to connect with your loved ones and participate in activities or hobbies that you enjoy. Know that the Italian American Program is still here and I look forward to better days when we can be together again.
Highlights from the Italian American Collection: Western Pennsylvania Stories. Paperback, 144 pages, 270 color images. Will be released May 2020 | $19.95. Pre-order your copy here.
In honor of 30 years of documenting the Italian American community of Western Pennsylvania, the Heinz History Center will publish a new book, Highlights from the Italian American Collection: Western Pennsylvania Stories this May. Enjoy a visual history presented through the History Center’s collection of artifacts, archives, and oral histories. The Italian American Collection is one of the most comprehensive of its kind in the United States and documents the pivotal role Italian Americans played in shaping the region’s political, economic, religious, and cultural landscapes. This important collection gives voice to the immigrant experience in America.
