Simone Cinotto Lecture and Book Signing

May 07, 2014 1380

Author and scholar Dr. Simone Cinotto will deliver a lecture and sign copies of his new book, The Italian American Table: Food, Family, and Community in New York City at Drexel University's Center for Hospitality and Sport Management on Monday, May 12 at 5pm.

In his talk, Cinotto will discuss how food was at the center of the lives of immigrants and their children. Cinotto maintains that Italian immigrants created a distinctive culture of food as a symbolic response to the needs of immigrant life, from the struggle for personal and group identity to the pursuit of social and economic power.

The Simone Cinotto Lecture and Book Signing will take place at 5pm and will be held in the Paul Peck Problem Solving and Research Building (101 N. 33rd Street) on the 6th Floor in the Academic Bistro. A reception will follow featuring a variety of handmade pizzas from culinary arts student Amanda Sharff's senior project. Copies of Dr. Cinotto's book, The Italian American Table: Food, Family and Community in New York City will be made available for purchase. The event is free and open to the public.

Donations to support Drexel scholarships are gladly accepted. Registration is required by emailing: [email protected]
