"Growing Up Italian American" with Dr. Ferdinand Visco

The book contains the stories of three generations of Italian Americans, told by those who lived them in their own words and placed in historical context. Our conversation with Dr. Visco will explore Italian American history, values, and culture. All guests will receive a copy of the book, and CCF Members are welcome to book a reservation in the Taverna following the event.

About Dr. Ferdinand J. Visco:
Ferdinand J. Visco MD was born in Brooklyn, New York, grew up Italian-American in College Point, Queens, and lived in Italy for six years, where he attended medical school at the University of Padua. Dr. Visco subsequently became chief of Cardiology at St. John’s Queens Hospital and Metropolitan Hospital in Manhattan. Currently retired, he is Chief Emeritus of the Division of Cardiology at Metropolitan Hospital and on the advisory board of AIAE (The Association of Italian American Educators).

Dr. Visco is the author of the critically acclaimed book “Growing Up Italian American.” His maternal grandfather, Michele Baratta, was born in Padula, and his paternal grandfather, Ferdinand Visco, was born in Vico Equense.” Both emigrated to the United States in the early 1900s.

The author currently lives in New York City, where he pursues his passion for the study and preservation of Italian-American history, tradition, and culture.
