One Staten Islander woman has put together a series of poems based off of her unique upbringing in both Brooklyn and Staten Island. Maria Giura, a New Springville native for the past 20 years, has compiled a series of her most notable poems in a recently released book titled, What My Father Taught Me.
Giura will be reciting the works featured in her book on Friday, June 1, at the Goretti Group at Holy Family, 366 Watchogue Rd. The stories include tales from her childhood featuring famous locales on Staten Island according to Giura.
