The Guglielmo Marconi Award, the Order Sons & Daughters of Italy in America’s (OSDIA) highest honor, is named for the Nobel prize-winning Italian physicist who invented wireless telegraphy. It is presented biennially to an Italian American who has made significant contributions to the United States.
This year’s honoree is U.S. Representative Thomas Richard Suozzi, who serves as U.S. Representative for New York’s 3rd District. He will be recognized at the Marconi Gala during the Sons & Daughters of Italy’s 56th Biennial National Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
Thomas Richard Suozzi is an Italian American who not only holds public office in representing New York’s 3rd District but has also been a member of the Order’s Loggia Glen Cove #1016 for 28 years - having joined back in 1991! Prior to being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, Mr. Suozzi served as Mayor of Glen Cove, New York, his hometown, from 1994 to 2001. He then served as Nassau County Executive from 2002 to 2009 during which Governing magazine named him “Public Official of the Year.”
Please join us as we celebrate the history and legacy of OSDIA. OSDIA lodges and the Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF), award hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to Italian American college-bound students. The SIF also funds cultural programs, medical research, and disaster relief – including a donation in the past year of $200,000 in earthquake relief to the Andrea Bocelli Foundation for the rebuilding of an elementary school in Muccia, Italy (Marche region). Proceeds from the Marconi Gala support these OSDIA and SIF programs.
Please help us support these programs and pay tribute to Rep. Suozzi by attending the Marconi Gala and/or placing an advertisement in the Biennial National Convention commemorative journal. Please contact Carly Jerome at 202-547-2900 or [email protected].
