Brownsville would not be what it is today without the energetic efforts of one of its citizens in the early 20th century. His story of achievements is a remarkable one well worth recounting. Making it even more intriguing is the fact that he was an immigrant, unschooled in the United States.
Louis Cobolini was an Italian born December 13, 1845, in what we now know as Trieste, Italy. At the time of his birth this city was under the rule of the Austrian Empire. Nothing is recorded of his education, but we do learn that he was from a family of military distinction.
