There's wide support at Seattle City Hall for transforming Columbus Day into Indigenous Peoples' Day. But the City Council vote scheduled for Monday was delayed so the move can get more attention. Councilmember Bruce Harrell, a co-sponsor of the resolution, pointed out KIRO 7's camera alone in the City Council chambers, and said he wanted 20 cameras to cover the historic decision.
"This is not a one day shot, let's talk more about this, let's get the city behind you 100 percent," Harrell said. Mayor Ed Murray also suggested a delay, because some Native American groups had asked city officials to time the passage of the resolution so the mayor could sign it on the first Indigenous Peoples' Day next month.
