ISSNAF award for the humanities

In the framework of "2013: Year of Italian Culture in the US", ISSNAF - Italian Scientists
and Scholars in North America Foundation will award the 2013 ISSNAF Award for the
Humanities. The purpose of the Board of Trustees is to acknowledge the research of
young Italian scholars in North America, whose commitment to their discipline of study
is innovative and honors their country of origin.
ISSNAF encourages all Italian researchers born after April 1973 and currently primarily
working in the United States or Canada to apply.
The ISSNAF Award for the Humanities will acknowledge the worthiest unpublished
manuscript of a volume in English dealing with an aspect of relationships between Italy
and North America within each of the following areas of research:
- Social History (History & Political Sciences)
- Intellectual History (Literature, Philosophy, Religion & Cultural Studies)
- Art (Art History, Visual art & Performing arts)
The winners of each category will each receive a monetary prize of $ 1,500 and a Medal
of Representation of the Italian President of the Republic. Abstracts will be published on
ISSNAF web site.
Amongst the three winners, a jury will select an Absolute Winner who will additionally
receive a publishing contract.
The Awards, co-sponsored by La Fondazione Friends of Italian Cultural Institute of New
York will be presented during the Friends Foundation Gala in New York during the Fall
2013.
SELECTION PROCESS
Step 1: A Review Board composed of renowned scholars, editors and critics will review
all applications and select three finalists per each of the three categories winners. The
decisions of the Review Board are final.
Step 2: Finalists will receive a notification with instructions to send their complete
monographic work.
Step 3: A Review Board composed of renowned scholars, editors and critics will review
the finalists' complete monographic works and select one winner for each category. The
decisions of the Review Board are final.
Step 4: During the award ceremony, a Jury composed of renowned scholars, editors and
critics will select the Absolute Winner amongst the three winners. The decision of the
Jury is final.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Eligibility: Italian scholars (Ph.D. or Ph.D. Candidates) born after April 1973 and currently
primarily working with public or private cultural or academic Institutions in the United
States or Canada
Format:
- Applications will comprise of: an updated Curriculum Vitae (including full contact
details; academic record; 3 letters of reference; titles of prior publications;
author's work citations or reviews; other scholarly achievements, awards, or
projects), the research abstract (max 1000 words) and one significant chapter of
the manuscript
- Applications, letters of reference, CV, research abstracts manuscripts must be
written in English
- Application must indicate for which category they are intended
- Application must be sent electronically in .doc or .pdf format
- Manuscripts must be ready for submission to press before May 31, 2013
- Applications that are not complete will not be considered
APPLICATION SUBMISSIONS

- All applications must be submitted by March 30, 2013
- The Review Board will select finalists (Step 2) by April 30, 2013
- Finalists must send their full monographic work by May 31, 2013
- The Review Board will select winners (Step 3) by July 15, 2013
