Whether wafting in the air at the Lorain County Fair in Wellington or at the summer events held at Lorain’s Black River Landing, the savory scent of sizzling Italian sausage sandwiches smothered in grilled onions and steaming green peppers, takes immediate precedence over any and all other aromas. But you don’t have to wait for summer to raise its sunny head.

From 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 12, at the Italian-American Veterans Post 1, 4567 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, IAV member and Army veteran Eraldo Mattei and his fiancee, Fran Brown, will cook not only Italian sausage sandwiches, but meatball submarine sandwiches as well.
