Everyone was wondering what chef-owner Dave Mancini's new and long-awaited La Rondinella would turn out to be. Would the founder of the wildly popular Supino Pizzeria do an old-school joint with checkered tablecloths? Could it be an upscale Northern Italian place? Or maybe even something slick and modern?
We should have known: It's as original as Mancini himself, especially when it comes to food. With white walls, zinc-topped tables, big windows and warm woods, La Rondinella in Detroit's Eastern Market is handsome and stylish but unpretentious.
