Walking through the door at Amici Trattoria in Athens is a feast for the eyes as well as a delight for the nose.
The scent of pepperoni and oregano mixed with freshly baked crust greets you as soon as you step in. A moment later, a waitress might hustle by you carrying a plate stacked with golden pillows of fried ravioli surrounding a bowl of marinara. Off to your right, lights in a gleaming bakery case put a literal spotlight on mouth-watering fresh pastries. And then you take in the room with its black and white checkerboard floor, wood counters and a chalk wall, featuring simple sketches of places like Rome.
