A staple for Italian pastries and breads in the Fair Haven section, Rocco's Bakery on Ferry Street, is going to be another city memory people talk about, especially when longtime customers go looking for their Easter pies, anginettes, ciccioli bread, chocolate lemon pie or cannoli. Rocco's, owned and run across from St. Francis Church at 432 Ferry St. the past 40 years by Antonio and Anna DiBenedetto, is closed.
Some people had been wondering about the possibility of Rocco's closing since a sign went up on the front door earlier this month that read, "We will be closed June 19th until further notice due to repairs on oven. Sorry for the inconvenience." Then, Thursday morning, Rocco's posted a "Dear customers" notice on its Facebook page.
