With the weather feeling more like spring, perhaps you're in the mood for something cool. Regardless of current temps, here's something a Staten Islander can warm up to in the spring. And the winner is Ralph's Famous Italian Ices with 2,440 votes for its six locations: 501 Port Richmond Ave, Port Richmond; 3285 Richmond Ave., Eltingville; 2361 Hylan Blvd., New Dorp; 4212 Hylan Blvd., Great Kills; 890 Huguenot Ave., Huguenot; and 6272 Amboy Road, Pleasant Plains.
Ralph's product has been keeping residents chill in the summer months for more than 80 years. As the legend goes, Ralph Silvestro came to the United States from Italy when he was a young man. In 1928, he began making what would turn out to be his Famous Italian Ices and sold them from a truck throughout Staten Island. His first storefront opened in 1949 on Port Richmond Avenue.
