It would seem the perfect way to get people to vote: put the poll in an Italian restaurant and let the public exercise their franchise with visions of manicotti and meatballs dancing in their heads.
By 2 p.m. Tuesday, however, anyone who came through the door at Vincenzo's Italian Grill in far north Houston was there to cast a look at the menu not a ballot.
The restaurant at 12510 North Freeway became a polling location after Perry Bass bought the restaurant in January. He used to own the Knights Inn behind the restaurant, which had been used as a polling site when he purchased it in 2005. The new owners did not seem interested in keeping the voting location at the motel, so Bass agreed to host this year's election at his new establishment.
