As far as research is concerned, Italy's most active university is the Ca' Foscari of Venice, while at the bottom of the list there are the universities of Lecce, Campobasso and Catania. But also in the South of Italy there are some very productive universities, like Salerno, for example; while among polytechnic universities, Bari is slightly higher than Turin in the ranking.
This is what emerges from the final data of the new "VQR," the regular assessment on "research quality". This is the criteria used by the National Agency for the Evaluation of the Universities (ANVUR) to fill the report cards of the departments and by the Ministry of Universities to assign the most part of government funds.
