The deadline to participate in the third edition of the “Science, She Says!” prize will expire on January 15, 2025. The prize was established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and will be awarded to five young foreign female researchers under 40 from as many geographical areas, included the United States.
It will be the Italian diplomatic offices around the world that will collect the applications and forward them to the Farnesina, where they will be collected for each of the geographical areas of reference. Winners will be selected on a geographic basis with the help of the area's science and space attachés.
“Science, She Says!” aims to reward a female researcher who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of science and technology and to the advancement of bilateral scientific cooperation by conducting her research in one of the regions identified in the announcement: one nominee will be selected for each region, who must be a resident of the country in which she is nominated for the award since at least Jan. 1, 2023, and must be presented by an eminent scientist holding a senior position in a scientific academy, university, research institute or S&T department of the government of the country in which the nominee works.
Applicants may be heads of universities or scientific institutions, members of Academies of Science, holders of research chairs or full professors. They must be established scientists with excellent academic and/or scientific careers and a recognized record of research achievements. Joint publications in high-impact journals, technologies supported by international patents, and research activities within multilateral organizations will complement applications.
The age limit to apply is 40 years as of June 6, 2025.
The announcement and forms are available on the Embassy websites, to which nominations should be emailed by January 15, 2025.
The award will be presented during the Italian Scientific Attachés Conference, to be held in 2025, and will consist of an engraved medal and diploma. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will cover travel and living expenses.
