The documentary “25 Years with Lidia: A Culinary Jubilee” will celebrate celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich’s quarter century on PBS. The hour-long doc will air at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18. The documentary aims to capture a portrait of the Yugoslavian-born chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, television host and Italian food ambassador who tells viewers “Tutti a tavola a mangiare” (“Everyone to the table to eat!”).
Appearances and interviews include Jacques Pepin, Geoffrey Zakarian, childhood friend Christopher Walken and other colleagues and associates. Bastianich and her husband opened their first restaurant in Queens, New York, in 1971. A subsequent restaurant, Felidia, was one of the first women-owned fine-dining restaurants in the country. Julia Child and James Beard once dined there, with Child inviting Bastianich to appear as a guest on her famed PBS cooking show, launching her television career.
