My FlorÌta, a Documentary Feature Film:The Last Chapter in Italian Immigration History

In February 2025, My FlorÌta, a feature-length documentary directed by Manuela Filomena, based on an idea by Vincenza Iadevaia, produced by Eufrasio Volpe, Michele Mary Volpe, Roger Alan Zessin, and co-produced by Iadevaia herself, was presented by the Italian Program at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton and by the Italian Institute of Culture in Miami Beach at O Cinema. The event marks a significant milestone poised to leave a lasting impact on the field of Italian American Studies.

My FlorÌta breaks new ground in the historiography of Italian migration for several reasons. It sheds light on Florida — an area previously overlooked in Italian migration studies. It breaks with the tearful narrative of uprooting to depict a fortunate type of migration; and stylistically, it blends oral history with touches of fictional narratives and aesthetic beauty.
