Anita Hughes knows San Francisco society. "Lake Como" starts out with lots of San Francisco weddings, each more beautiful than the last. The protagonist, Hallie Elliot, is impatiently waiting for her boyfriend Peter, a brilliant journalist, to propose.
In the meantime, she works as an interior decorator designing homes for the wealthy. But when she finds Peter and her boss in a compromising situation, she begins, of course, to question her desire to marry him. At the same time, her half-sister in Italy has left her husband because he cheated on her.
