On World Homeless Day, a rock star, local businesses and others came together to celebrate the new renovations of a Camden shelter. Joseph’s House, which has been on Atlantic Avenue since 2014, held an open house Thursday to show off $1.2 million in renovations. The money of the upgrades came from a mixture of public grants and donations from corporations like the Connelly House and Subaru of America. Funds also came from a well-known entertainer.
In 2013, singer Jon Bon Jovi’s JBJ Soul Foundation partnered with Joseph’s House to help fund the purchase and renovation of the 555 Atlantic Avenue.“In those early days, and in the eyes of many, transforming Camden seemed like an impossible task,” Bon Jovi said. “In the word impossible, remains the word ‘possible.’ We all had something in common, and that was the word ‘hope.’”
